This past weekend Revolve hosted a Bake Sale Fundraiser for one of the littlest members of our family.
Miss Cassie Jo
I cannot gush enough about this sweet girl. Cassie Jo was born with Spina Bifida but her attitude says otherwise. We could all learn a thing or two about joy in struggle from this 4 year old. Here is a piece from her ChipIn site...
Cassie Jo was born March 2008 and has a birth defect called Spina Bifida. She has mild paralysis in her lower legs. She has no control over her calf muscles, feet or ankles. She wears braces and is currently in therapy where she is learning to walk. She has overcome many obstacles. When she was born, they told us she was paralyzed from the waist down. She wasn't. They told us she may turn out to be mentally retarded. She isn't. They said she would never walk. She can. She walks short distances in a little pink pair of arm crutches. She needs a wheelchair for long distances and pretty much anytime we go out in public. The chair gives her an independence she may otherwise miss out on. She can't run, but she can keep up in her chair! She tires easily in the heavier wheelchairs, so the one we are ordering is specially designed out of carbon fiber for maximum efficiency. It only weighs in at 4lbs! She will be able to out-race all the kids on the playground now!
The Bake Sale was a success with $600 dollars raised but we still have quite a ways to go. If you're in Tulsa we'll be at the Chick-fil-a at Tulsa Hills the first Thursday from 5-9pm in August. They will donate anywhere from 10-20% of the proceeds from all the receipts we receive. Come see us and turn in your Chick-fil-a receipt!
If you'd like to make a direct donation please visit her ChipIn site. I wish everyone could meet Cassie Jo, she is pure happiness. God is doing amazing things with this precious little girl!
I can't believe it but I am already 9 weeks into NoBo which means my very first goal race, the Bedlam 5k, is right around the corner!
July 28th at 7:30am to be exact. I had a pretty nasty run in with shin splints during last Monday's run which was irritating. Since there was no run on Weds due to the holiday I spent some time with the trusty foam roller. I made it to the honor run on Saturday morning and that resulted in a good 3 mile run doing 4/3 intervals. Not bad!
I'm nice and sore today but fingers crossed this evening's run is a good one too!
This month's Feed Me message series will have a threefold focus on helping others grow in three different areas: our church, our mall community and our city.
We take for granted consuming the Word of God on a daily basis, and we go through life rarely satisfied.
Feed Me: Our Church - The Feed Me series leads our church family to feed themselves spiritually by focusing on their personal relationship with God. Through this growth, they will then learn how to feed others in their community and their city.
Feed Me: Our Mall Community - Every weekend hundreds of employees at Promenade Mall get up early, open stores and serve the general public. Many of these tenants actually work 12 hour days and work all weekend. Revolve will be making rounds Saturday mornings starting at 8:30 a.m. and serving our mall tenants free donuts and coffee. If your interested in being part of this serving team, all you have to do is arrive at Revolve Church at 8 a.m., Saturday July 7 and July 14 to help us love on our Promenade Mall family.
Feed Me: Our City - We are teaming up with Reasor's Foods and the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank to fill sacks of groceries to take to the food bank later this month. To participate, pick up a Reasor's bag at Revolve this weekend, go across the street to Reasor's, and fill it and return it to Revolve. On Saturday, July 21, we will visit the food bank from 1p.m. - 4 p.m. to deliver the collected food and pack food boxes for local families.
Our team shot this video for the series featuring my hubby... and Winston. :)
He's quite the actor isn't he!?
If you are in the Tulsa area and would like to check us out come to the Promenade Mall (lower level next to Macy's) Sundays at 10am!
I finally bit the bullet and bought new running shoes yesterday...
Brooks Ghost 5
They are a very comfortable neutral shoe, plus they're pretty. :) If you're in the market for running shoes I highly recommend being fitted at your local runner's shop. My favorite in Tulsa is Fleet Feet. They can video your feet running on a treadmill and from there narrow down the shoe selection to the best fit for you. I took my new shoes out for a test run yesterday, despite the heat silly me, and am very happy with them so far. Looking forward to my NoBo run tonight!
I recently stumbled across Lyndsay's blog and loved the idea of a Foodie Penpal! What a fun way to connect with people and try new foods in the process! This month my penpal was Katie from Wish & Whimsy. I cannot say enough sweet things about her. Very thoughtful and so much fun to talk to!
My box was AMAZING!
She knew that I'm on the go a lot these days so she sent a few of her favorite "on the go" snacks. There was not a bad item in the box!
If you're interested in the program here's a detailed explanation from Lindsay's page...
-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
- Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!
***If you’re in Europe, please contact Carol Anne from This Is Rock Salt at email@example.com to get involved!
Thank you Katie for my goodies! I enjoyed it all so much!
My ladies ReGroup at Revolve recently finished a book study on You're Already Amazing by Holley Gerth. I highly recommend this book! If we as women could grasp how God sees us what a force we would be in our world today!
I highlighted the crap out of this book! There are so many good things to share.
It's time you knew you're amazing.
You're not only amazing.
You've got what it takes...not just to survive but to change the world.
YES! YES! YES! We have all been given unique gifts to offer those around us. It's time we stopped trying to compete with other women in our circles and started looking for ways to complement each other. Together there is completion. "Most people don't do what you do, love what you love, feel the kind of passion you feel about that thing."
Don't think for a moment that just because you have made mistakes that God can't use you. God will use your brokenness in ways you never would expect. "You think you have to take what's broken and make it perfect in order to be used by me. But I think in a completely different way. I took what was perfect, my Son, and made him broken so that you could be whole. And because you belong to him, your brokenness can bring healing to others too."
God has created you exactly how he wants you to be and he can use you no matter the bumps along the way. "We are chosen, cherished, created women who have all we need to fulfill God's plans for our lives. he has made us just as he wants us to be. We have something to offer that no one else can bring . . . and the world is waiting."
A couple of months ago my amazing friend Nicci of lyrics photography captured some fun images of my little family before moving on to the next chapter of her life in FL. Here are a few of my favorites..
There I said it... I want to complete the hardest event on the planet by October of next year. I am nowhere near the physical shape I need to be in order to complete said event but since starting NoBo I am closer than I was 6 weeks ago! Step 1 is losing this extra 30lbs I'm carrying around. I'm tracking my calories with MyFitnessPal, keeping up with NoBo and starting next week getting back to my gym routine at Sky Fitness with the husby. Very much looking forward to that!
Training for an event like this has made a huge shift in my mindset. I am constantly thinking about it and that excitement is helping me make the right decisions in regards to food and getting those workouts in. I know October 2013 is rather far in the future but this girl has a long way to go and setting mini goals along the way will help keep that momentum going!
Last night we had the pleasure of seeing The Civil Wars at Cains Ballroom.
Zane referred to them as spell weavers and that is so true. There were moments where the crowd was completely silent, sucked into the moment. Stupid good. They performed all of my favorites ending with an encore of Billie Jean and Dance Me to the End. Seriously could not have been more perfect.
Another highlight of the night was FINALLY meeting fellow blogger, Kari Beth. We became friends over 3 years ago through blogging but never met in person. She is lovely and I hope we will meet up again very soon for a nice long chat!
